Project Details

Title: Experimental study on Effect of openings on temperature distribution in an enclosure.

This project has been done in partial fulfillment for the award of bachelor of engineering from VTU during the year 2011.

For the above mentioned study an enclosure of 5m x 4m x 3m is taken into account, whose scale ratios is being reduced to 50cm x 40cm x 30cm and a model is prepared using a 10mm thick Asbestos Sheet(Cement Sheet).
In order to stimulate solar radiation flux, heating coils have been placed on East, West and Top surfaces respectively on the model. Thermocouples of ‘T’ and ‘J’ types are employed to measure air temperature and surface temperature using suitable indicators.

Project consisted of 4 stages

1. Fabrication of Models
2. Conducting the Experiment
3. Tabulation of Readings
4. Result Analysis
